Paws-On -- Positive Dog Training

Our philosophy of training is one of building a relationship of respect between the dog and the owner.  We do this through clearly defined guidlines and expections with lots of positive reinforcement. We don't use treats with our training methods -- through the Paws-On training process the dog learns to focus on you, the owner, and to make that mental connection that causes them to want to please you.  Lots of love and praise are their rewards.

All training is done -- one on one in your home, with you and your family.  This gives the dog the level of consistancy they need to really grasp what you are asking of them.

The first class is FREE!!!

Classes are once a week for 4 or 6 weeks.  If you like the first class, then it counts as one of your 4 or 6. So there's no risk for you.  That's how sure we are that you will immediately see how easy and effective our training program is.

The Rules of Dog Training

  1.  Lavish praise on your dog when he does as asked/commanded. If he does not do as you ask then do not praise him. Correct timing is extremely important. Dogs must be corrected for their poor or non-compliance to commands at the very time the action happens. Correct after the action will confude the dog as to why he's being corrected.
  2.  ALWAYS, be consistent in your training. Never, give your dog a command that you can't or won't enforce. It only causes your dog to think he doesn't have to do as you say. Remember that dogs are pack animals, and have a pack mentality.
  3. To be comfortable and happy, your dog must know his position in the pack (your family). Obedience training will establish who is the ALPHA dog (You) and will result in a happier dog. Without the establishment of the APLHA dog, your dog will assume that he is it and will either attempt to or become the Aplha Dog. He will demostrate this in many ways, from disobediance, to marking (wetting and pooping) in your house.
  4. Never train a dog when you are angry or upset. Dogs will pick up on this and will react accordingly.
  5.  Teach your dog to stay off couch and sofa. That is the place for the ALPHA dog (You) not him.
  6.  When you feed your dog, have wait untill you tell him to eat. This establishs who is the ALPHA. ALpha's always control who eats when and how much in the pack.
  7. Do not humanize your dog and expect him to think like a human.
  8. During training, always to anticipate what your dog is going to do, but try not to use body language as dogs can pick up on that and will react accordinly. When you eat, have your dog sit or lay in another area.
  9. DO NOT feed him from the table as this will develope the begging habit.
  10. ALWAYS treat your dog with love, respect and firmness. Doing so will ensure that you are rewarded 100 times over everyday.
  11. NEVER EVER call your dog to you and then punish him. Doing so will teach your dog that if he comes to you he will be punished. So then why should he come to you.
